Spinal Cord Society of Australia

Organise a fundraiser for us

While we continue to seek government support for our research, it is necessary for us to raise, independently, in excess of half a million dollars each year.

The Spinal Cord Society of Australia raises money to fund pioneering projects at scientific and medical institutions in Australia. We have made significant progress over the past 5 years and recent advances have begun to offer a real chance that we can develop treatments that will repair damaged spinal cords and restore sensation and movement in paralysed people. The Spinal Cord Society aims to launch clinical trials of new treatments as soon as possible to bring hope to the many people who suffer from SCI.

Fundraising is a fun way for you to help us – these events not only raise money which we use to directly fund SCI research but also provide us with an opportunity to raise public awareness of Spinal Cord Injury. There are many different ideas for fundraising such as BBQ’s, sporting events, balls and golf days. If you have an idea why not discuss it with us? Contact Alan Bowden on 0414 333 299 or atcontact email

Donations from Celebrations are a relatively new fundraising idea and is an excellent idea if you are too busy to organise a separate fundraising event. It provides a great opportunity to party. Your family and friends have the satisfaction of knowing that you will be delighted with their gift, and you will be able to make a sizeable donation to your favourite charity - you will also be passing on a gift to The Spinal Cord Society that could make a real difference to a paralysed person’s future...

We can help you celebrate – just let us know in advance if you are planning to celebrate with a donation to the Society, or let us know in advance of your event and we will do our best to support you.

If you are interested in organising a fundraising event, please download our fundraising guidelines and application form. We also have a fundraising toolkit to help you organise your event.

Fundraising Functions – Are you interested in running something for us?

We have a number of businesses which have offered us their support through donating (or at cost) their facilities ….. one is Witchmount (Witchmount Winery ), a winery/restaurant and the other is the Maroondah Club in Croydon.

Witchmount have kindly offered us their venue for a Sunday Lunch function which could include wine tasting, lunch and entertainment for up to 100 people.

The Maroondah Club (Ringwood East) are also offering their facilities for a dinner dance etc. The club can provide a function for 100 – 150 people with (free) entertainment. There are a choice of meals that can be provided for about $25/head which provides a good opportunity for raising ~$25/head in ‘profit’ for the Society.

Why not use this opportunity to hold a reunion, birthday party, wedding, engagement etc…

Why not gather together a few friends and pull something together? We can provide support … please contact Alan at info@spinalcordsociety.org or call him on 0414 333 299.
